“The Blessing of the Righteous”

Psalm 20:5

The Lord will fulfill the petitions of the righteous.

Petition – a formal request to a superior authority soliciting some favor; something asked for.

There are some key things that we must learn if we want God to fulfill our petitions:

  1. Learn to be specific about what you are asking for.

Hannah was very specific about what she asked the Lord for. She requested a male child, and God granted her request.

  1. Know the will of God before you make a request.

I John 5:14-15 says, “If we ask anything according to His will, He heareth us. And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.” If you do not know His will, seek it out.

  1. When making your petition, ask in faith.

James 1:6-7 says, “But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.” Be confident.

  1. Make sure that there is no iniquity in your heart.

Iniquity – gross injustice; sin or wickedness.

Make sure that your heart is clean. Psalms 66:18 says, “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.

  1. Be persistent.

He wants us to be persistent in our prayer life.
